The business of transforming apartments into stylish condos has become big business in San Diego. Over the past few years, several apartment complexes have been transformed into San Diego condos for sale.

The market for condos is huge in San Diego and therefore the number of condo conversions is also very high. For instance by the end of June, the number of apartments that had been converted into condos for sale had grown to 6,922 in 111 projects.

The condo market in San Diego is one of the biggest and probably most profitable markets in the West Coast.  Phoenix and Las Vegas follow San Diego in that they too have booming condo markets. In the last year Phoenix had 22 conversion projects during which apartments were converted into new condos.

The soaring popularity of condos is causing a lot of apartment managers to consider a conversion. However, this is not always easy or simple as property developers usually work within the available infrastructure. In fact, San Diego is one of the few markets in which the condo market has grown despite a general housing slump. In fact, the market for condos throughout San Diego county has risen by 2 per cent while the prices of downtown San Diego condos for sale has risen by 4 per cent when compared to the same period last year.

Condominiums are exceedingly popular with middle aged parents as well as the elderly. The reasons for this are obvious. For the elderly moving into one of the San Diego new condos is a chance for a more relaxing life. No longer will the elderly couple have to worry about maintenance problems as they did in their individual single home.

For the middle aged, condos offer access to a more active life. As most condos come with tennis courts, saunas, spas and gymnasiums, couples do not have to spend extra to become members of the gym. They can do enjoy all these facilities within the compounds of their condo complex.

While looking at condo conversions, individuals need to keep in mind that the common areas may not look very beautiful as typically most apartments do not pay much attention to this area. Therefore individuals need to decide about the amount of time that they plan to spend in the common areas of the condos. Most importantly they must decide if they like the design and architecture of the condos.
