As recently as 1981, this lake-centered community was a real working quarry.. What is now Stone Lake was once a deep vein of limestone that was blasted, chiseled, and carted away, ton by ton, to be used in construction projects throughout Southwest Florida and beyond. Before that, this land was known as "Piper's Pasture" and was owned by the same enterprising pioneer who opened Everglades Wonder Gardens in 1936. A cluster of 23 single-family homes, is tucked by the west preserve. Homes range from 2,153 to 2,776 square feet of living space.
