Co-op City in the Bronx, New York is home to many residents and is said to be the largest house development of its kind in the world. The expanse of land, which the buildings occupy, sits on what was once an amusement park. The space now holds over 35 high rises and close to seven cluster townhouse buildings.
Known as the Baychester section of the Bronx, the Co-op City can along Interstate 95 and the Hutchinson River Parkway. Co-op City's humble beginnings stemmed from a sponsored project by the United Housing Foundation under the auspices of Abraham Kazan.

New York's Mitchell-Lama Program was responsible for the development of this community. The stated program, which ran from 1955 to 1978, was specifically meant to court the interest of middle class owners. In the beginning, the condo community saw a predominant occupancy of Jewish and African Americans. They benefited from the subsidized housing arrangement.
Currently there are over 15,000 ethnically diverse tenants living in these high-rises. Condo life in Co-op City is definitely worth coming home to. Everything that a tenant needs is within close proximity to the buildings. There are three shopping centers, a park, a firehouse and police station and the complex is situated within a school district.
The neighboring Bay Plaza also offers department stores and shopping and a movie theater. Once inside one will find elevators, laundry room, and closed-circuit security cameras and lobby attendants. The bedrooms range from 2 - 6 and have a lot of open spaces that would be more than enough for families to occupy.
Maintenance is said to be impeccable and although parking on the Co-op City's eight parking structures can be somewhat tricky, those who live there have done so for years and have no intentions of moving out.
