Morris Park can safely be referred to as Little Italy. This Italian-American town is famous for its tantalizing pizzas and strong Italian community that remains cohesive up to this day. Morris Park’s location is north of Pelham Parkway and west of the Bronx River Parkway. The city was named after Henry Lewis Morris, a man who owned several properties in the Bronx district. Morris was also a well-known lawyer who sat at the helm of his own firm Morris and McVeigh.

Racing was a big deal in the 1800 to 1900 at the popular Morris Park racetrack. The racetrack was also the home of the Belmont Stakes, which ran consistently every year until 1905.Some five years later in 1910, a fire destroyed the racetrack and it made way for the construction of homes. Today, Morris Park continues to have a sprinkle of Italian-Americans who keep the Italian tradition through their social clubs, bakeries, cafes, pizzerias and Italian restaurants.

Morris Park is known as the spot where the Bronx Columbus Day Parade takes place each year. The area also got well deserved coverage when it was used as the backdrop in Spike Lee’s movie “Summer of Sam” and Robert DeNiro’s “Raging Bull”. A lot of talented personalities have also emerged from Morris Park. They include best selling author Mary Higgins Clark and TV host Regis Philbin. Philbin is now the name of the street that Philbin was born and raised.

The Medical row of Morris Park includes the sprawling Jacobi Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, two of which the city is proud. Those who currently live in condos in Morris Park would tell you that it is a relatively and safe and quiet area. It is this kind of environment that one would not think twice about raising their kids and expanding their families. Sitting on the east of Morris Park is Van Nest, an area that caters to the low-income population.
