Condos In Norwood New York
Norwood is another neighborhood located in the Bronx borough of New York City. Like the Woodlawn neighborhood also located in the Bronx, this neighborhood is defined by boundaries that are very obvious in their delineation of the neighborhood.
Norwood’s north boundary is defined by by Van Cortlandt Park and Woodlawn Cemetery. Bronx Park makes up Norwood’s east and south boundaries; this boundary includes the New York Botanical Garden. On the west, Norwood is bounded by Mosholu Parkway.
Among the 40,748 inhabitants who call the Norwood neighborhood home, approximately 50% are of Hispanic origin. Approximately 29% of the population consists of those people who consider themselves White; African-Americans make up about 20% of the population. Various other ethnic groups comprise the rest.
Median incomes for residents in the Norwood neighborhood range from $28,724 to $29,679. Norwood was once home to a large Irish-American population. As a result of their influence, Norwood was often referred to as Bainbridge. This designation was largely due to the presence of one of several main commercial zones, specifically, the one being located at Bainbridge Avenue and East 204th Street. Irish-Americans, for the most part, frequented this particular commercial zone.
However, economic and social changes, especially those occurring between the 1970s and the 1990s resulted in a marked decrease in the Irish population. As a result, the “Bainbridge” designation is not as recognizable today as it was before and during the aforementioned time period. Sadly, even the use of “Norwood” to define the particular neighborhood does not elicit the same response as that of more recognizable or affluent neighborhoods such as Woodlawn or Riverdale.
Norwood residents, however, like those in other neighborhoods, still have the option of taking advantage of the many condominium properties that are available in the area. The units available within these properties are as diverse and varied as the inhabitants themselves. The wide range of prices for the individual units located on the properties makes it possible for a “Norwoodite” to pick and choose, thus making the selection best suited to individual needs.
One bedroom, one bathroom condo units will comfortably house the single resident or newly-married couple. The growing family will find an abundance of two-bedroom, one-bath units from which to choose. The difference in N.Y. condominium properties from condos or other multi-family dwellings is often a selling point with those interested in condo living. Low maintenance fees afford residents on-site amenities such as secure parking, and access to services which are available only to tenants/residents of the property (pool area, recreation area, etc.) These fees may also include groundskeeping and unit upkeep privileges.
