Condos In Parkchester New York

The name of the Bronx town called Parkchester is actually a hybrid of two neighboring towns Park Versailles and Westchester Heights. It is a thriving residential community originally built for the middle-class and it has remained that way even up to today. The condos and living quarters at Parkchester, Bronx is aesthetically pleasing to say the least. It is tastefully design with terracotta and has trees framing the walkways with a multitude of multi-colored flowering shrubs.

The housing development is well managed by the Parkchester Preservation Management Company. And the idea for creating these residential quarters was the brainchild of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Back in the 1930s, the company envisioned a community of some 51 condo buildings to house over 12,000 families.

The condos were eventually constructed circa 1939 on 129 acres of land, which once belonged to a boy’s orphanage. Some of these condos were later converted into N.Y. condominiums. Parkchester is a family oriented neighborhood and was once known as the place where soldiers retired after the war with their families in the 1940s. At the time, Parkchester tenants consisted of an all-Caucasian family.

Today Parkchester now has a mixed population of South Asians, Italians and Philippinos and African Americans and Latinos making up some 50 percent of its tenants. Take a walk down to Lexington Avenue and you will get to the train station. Or enjoy a stroll on the grounds of the complex where lawns and playgrounds which abound.

For the religious minded, no matter what denomination, one would always find a place of worship on the outskirts of the town. There are churches, synagogues and even mosques that tenants can attend. And residence need not go too very far away to enjoy the varied amenities that the complex has to offer. There is a postal office, dental office and even a daycare center.Department stores are also within walking distance and the popular Macy’s department store is also on site.

If you ever find yourself hungry in Parkchester, they’ve got a pizzeria and a much-talked about bakery. The residential part of the property has on-site garages and 24 hour security. The condos are all in pristine condition and are spacious with breathtaking views.
