Sound View, Bronx new York is a town that is a victim of stereotype. Just utter the name Sound View, Bronx, and one quickly conjures up a town that is marred with everyday violence and high crimes. Truth be told, Sound View was the location of a heinous murder of an immigrant years ago. The criminal streak continued with the emergence of the notorious gangs Bloods and the Crips. Sadly enough, the town continues to be have its own wave of ongoing criminal activity taking place.
Sound View is situated at the heart of south central Bronx and it sits on the Bronx River. This town also encompasses neighborhood areas like Clason’s Point. Clason’s Point’s namesake is Isaak Clason, a Scottish merchant. Years ago the town of Clason’s Point was famous for a lot of recreational activities which included amusement parks and fishing. And it was not uncommon to see the occasional trolley cars or have to hop a ferryboat steamer to get to downtown Manhattan and Queens either.
Residents back then also busied themselves with break-dancing and deejaying competitions, and other towns caught on to the frenzy. Today, Clason’s Point is home to many Jamaicans, Guyanese, Hondurans and Dominicans to name a few. They occupy homes which are bungalow styled which sits on the oceanfront. This is a far cry from the mansions, which existed in the area years ago.
The Sound View district currently has over 30 low income housing for the underprivileged. These high rises which are commonly referred to as the “projects” can be seen on almost every street corner in the town. And since the homes are affordable, they are mostly occupied by those who abuse drugs and have a criminal record.
But all in Sound View is not grim. One can indeed find a decent N.Y. condo to live in. Elsewhere in Sound View exists luxurious looking condominiums, it’s almost like night and day when comparing the two housing areas. These duplex are well secured and gated and has huge closets, assigned parking space and waterfront playgrounds. Another plus of living in this area is that it is within a short distance from train stations, shopping centers and major roads.
