Condos In Woodlawn New York
7,741 residents of largely Irish-American and Irish immigrant descent call the Woodlawn neighborhood of the Bronx borough home. These inhabitants have the somewhat unusual distinction of living in a neighborhood with fairly well-defined boundaries. The New York City / Westchester County line forms its north boundary; the Bronx River delineates its east boundary. The famous Woodlawn Cemetery is Woodlawn’s south boundary; Van Cortlandt Park defines Woodlawn’s west boundary.
Part of Woodlawn’s area extends north into the City of Yonkers, New York. Woodlawn’s predominantly Irish ways and population are present in this section, also. Additionally, several stores and pubs, while located on McLean Avenue in Yonkers proper, are considered part of the Woodlawn neighborhood. Woodlawn is best known for its famous landmark, the Woodlawn Cemetery. This resting place for more than 300,000 people was opened in 1863. What is believed to be the first mausoleum on the East Coast of the United States was built at Woodlawn Cemetery, a trend which soon spread to cemeteries in other parts of the United States.
The names of a number of the 300,000 people who lie in Woodlawn Cemetery cause immediate recognition when one comes upon their resting place. Among those are Irving Berlin, the famous composer; and Nellie Bly, a female journalist known for her gritty and hard-hitting articles, especially on the plight of mentally ill people around the turn of the 19th century. Harry Carey, he of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” fame, is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. Fiorella LaGuardia, the three-term Republican mayor of New York, the director Otto Preminger, and Bat Masterson, famous Wild West figure, all lie within the more than 400 acres of Woodlawn Cemetery.
Woodlawn’s unique location lends itself to the abundance of N.Y. Condo properties that are located within the neighborhood and the surrounding Yonkers area. These properties, as well as the condominium units located within them, come in many price ranges. Units within these properties would have varying selling or rental prices, thusmaking it possible for anyone wishing to experience N.Y. condo living to find the unit best suited to their family and economic needs.
Further, different properties offer units as unique as the residents. The single person or young married couple can find a unit within a condo property with one bedroom and one bathroom. That same property, however, will have units for the family who requires a little more space, with two bedrooms and a bathroom being available.
